Rustic little trees

Happy December 1st! It’s officially holiday season and I’m super excited to get to decorating. With winter, Christmas and decorations in mind I whipped out these quick and easy little trees. Each tree is only about

3inches tall from the top to the base of the trunk, scrap yarn and about 30 mins is all you need!

Hope you love them as much as I do!

Supplies:

  • 3.25 mm hook
  • Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in any color for trees
  • Poly-fil stuffing
  • yarn needle
  • Twine, ribbon, embroider floss ( whatever you’d like ) for hanging loops

Trunk supplies:
This is where you can be creative! I used a cinnamon stick for one and a cork for the other. The cork I used is 1/2 inch wide at its center and 3/4 inches wide at its base. You will also need super glue or hot glue for this method.
Helpful suggestions, the total length of what you use should be about 1 1/2 inches. 3/4 will be inside the tree, 3/4 hang out to become the trunk. The total width has to fit into a 10sc circle and I found about 1/2 an inch give or take fits in well.

I have also included a crochet trunk pattern if you’d rather use that. You will need a small amount of brown yarn in worsted weight for this.

Pattern:
With tree color:

  1. 5sc in magic circle – 5
  2. 2sc in each st around – 10
  3. sc around – 10
  4. sc around – 10
  5. ( sc, inc )5x – 15
  6. sc around – 15
  7. sc around – 15
  8. ( sc 2, inc )5x – 20
  9. sc around – 20
  10. sc around – 20
  11. ( sc 3, inc )5x – 25
  12. sc around – 25
  13. sc around – 25
  14. In the back loops only; ( sc 3, dec )5x -20
  15. dec 10x – 10

If you are using a cork, cinnamon stick, etc fasten off here. Weave in ends. Stuff the top and middle of the tree firmly, keep the lower half looser, this will help with your trunk.
Dab a bit of glue on the top of your trunk and completely circle around it about halfway down.
Push the trunk up into the tree, the top bit of glue will adhere to the stuffing and the center glue strip will adhere to the 10st opening.

For a crocheted trunk:
Switch to brown yarn –
Stuff the tree firmly, continuing to stuff as you work and finish the trunk.

16. In the front loops only; sc around – 10

17. sc around – 10

18. dec 5x – 5

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Loop a piece of ribbon or string through the top and all done!

You can hang them in your tree ( the cinnamon stick ones will add a lovely fragrance! ), attach them to presents or leave them as what I like to call “holiday mood lifters” for people to find while out and about. 😁
